THE BIG PLOT

BIG BRIGHT NIGHT

big heart

Lead artist Irene Rogan was  commissioned to create a sculpture for Big Bright Night.  'Big Heart'  is a 4 metre high inflatable, interactive light sculpture suspended  from three trees on the site at the centre of the estate.  The Heart is kept 'beating' by the community from the input of memories of Kirkholt. One side is a vivid glowing red and the other white for projecting images of the community, the work of Vision for Kirkholt team an pARTicipate over the recent years.

The community were invited to share their  memories of Kirkholt. The memories would keep the 'big heart beating' and in return were given free gifts and prizes for the best ones. The  image above displays  one of the prizes  a T -shirt with a special edition design by Irene Rogan

Big Bright Night -  the Vision for Kirkholt Team presented an evening of entertainment, with compere Norman Warwick from Just Poets, a lantern parade, giant interactive light sculpture, live performances and music.

Light grafitti photographs were created by  Kirkholt Youth Club and The Strand Shopkeepers with help from Photographer Peter Walker. Food and refreshments were available.

The Big Bright Night is the launch of the Big Plot project.  The Arts Council England is funding The Big Plot and this event as part of pARTicipate programme using art to support creative urban regeneration
