THE BIG PLOT
In 2009 Kirkholt estate was selected as a target area for investment from the Oldham and Rochdale Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder (OHMR). An extensive redevelopment plan for the area was launched in 2007, working in  partnership with Rochdale Borough Council and social housing provider Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, the Vision for Kirkholt and Shonagh Ingram from pARTicipate.

Irene Rogan was commissioned in 2009 as Lead artist  to work closely  with key stakeholders in a project which seeks to transform and animate the recently cleared site on Kirkholt Estate, Rochdale. Following in-depth research and consultation with the community Irene wrote project proposals, developed the idea of 'The Big Plot' for the site to  become a temporary creative canvas for art and events and submitted a successful planning application. Biodiversity and the environment are key concerns within the proposals. A wildflower meadow and large sculptural  landforms focus on a sustainable approach, integrating high quality art. It was a logical step to become part of the celebrations for IYB (International Year of Biodiversity). The Big Bright Night was a special event for launching the arts programming  for 'The Big Plot' and it took place during March 2011.

Jo Gornall joined the team in September 2010 to  deliver exciting community events  for the 'Big Bright Night,  which was part of a celebratory project including a lighting sculpture commission created by Irene.
