STAKING A CLAIM PT2
Kirkholt Youth Club staking their claims on The Big Plot
THE BIG PLOT
Â
Â
This is the continuation of the consultation programme during 2010 both for the new landscaping and art programmes on the site over the next 2 - 5 years. This event followed on from last year's community event 'Staking Your Claim' part of Balderstone Park 2009 event. This year's project involved young people and residents out on Kirkholt Big Plot staking their claims and creating an environmental sculpture for a day.
The sculpture was created from 125 x 8ft bamboo poles, labels were tied to the top with claims for ideas for the site written by participants gathered from previous consultation.
*The canes were given away at the end of the project to enthusiastic gardeners and allotments
*Staking a Claim how it's done
You are a prospector and can stake a claim on the Big Plot by thinking of an idea of what you would like to see or do on the site. Write it on the Big Plot Map or a make a claim-stick, or pile of ‘rocks’ made from playdoh, then ownership of idea will be verified. When staking a claim on The Big Plot, stick or rock monuments are placed on the map. Write your Idea and give the following:
(1) name of person making the claim
(2) contact details, so we can keep you up to date
(3) claim or idea e.g. planting flowers, play space
A copy of the claim notice was with artist Irene Rogan and Vision for Kirkholt office.
